MY CAREER STARTS IN ACCOUNTANCY

Yes, really! In 2012, at the age of 18, I decided to skip university and launch my full-time career, jumping head first into a corporate job in accountancy with one of the largest finance firms in the world.

I achieved my accountancy qualification and learned SO much about not only finance but business, too.

LAUNCH MY FIRST BLOG

In November 2014, I launched my first blog and with it, my first website!

It was bad. It was so bad. But it gave me the bug for designing and learning the basics of CSS code.

CAREER CHANGE INTO RADIO

By the end of 2015, I knew I needed a change. I’d learned a lot but I knew accountancy wasn’t going to be my long-term career.

Running my blog had me craving something more creative, and I landed a job in what was a small team in a massive radio business. It gave me the best of both worlds, coming up with creative campaigns, but then using my love of spreadsheets to analysis and report on them!

MY LONDON ERA

I was head hunted for a job in London at a rival radio business, which came with a significant pay rise and increase in responsibility.

At 23 years old, I was managing a division all by myself! I was giving a work Macbook and commuted via the tube to a sleek office in Central London. I thought I’d made it.

GIRLS IN WORK

I launched my first, “proper” business, Girls in Work. It was an online platform for women in the workplace, with the aim of teaching others everything I wish I’d have been taught before heading into the corporate world.

It needed a full website, a blog, a podcast, social accounts, event ticketing… you name it. If it was digital, I was making it, learning it.. winging it!

I’d learned SO much about running a business during COVID. Lockdown had given me the opportunity to really double down on Girls in Work and I couldn’t be prouder of what we achieved.

We sold out events both in-person and online, were invited as guest speakers at events and hosted a successful podcast.

However, once again, I was having a little niggle that there was something else I was meant for.

DESIGN QUALIFICATIONS

After over 6 months of some pretty deep reflections, I realised the thing I loved the most about all of my side hustles and hobbies over the year had been the websites!

I loved designing them, building them, making them work beautifully and the challenge of them.

I started by getting a couple of online qualifications in product management, before investing heavily in becoming a fully certified UX and UI designer.

LAUNCHING MY BUSINESS

During 2023, I’d finally felt brave enough to leave my full-time radio job. I loved that job so much, and to have been part of the team that scaled the business from 2 people to 15+, and £7m revenue to £39m+, was incredible and experience I’ll never forget.

And then, in 2024, I launched my website design business!

AND NOW, WE’RE HERE!

40+ happy clients later, I have once again learned tonnes about business and design. I’ve found my design style and adore working with the incredible business owners that trust me with their websites.

From yoga teachers in Spain, to stylists in the UK to IT professionals in the US, there’s not a day that goes by now that I’m not beyond grateful that this is my job.
